What A Joke

“Where are the jobs?” – That was John Boehner’s response when the latest jobs numbers were released. Once again, the country was on the plus-side: 290,000 new jobs in April. That makes four months of positive employment growth in a row. As usual, the previous month’s numbers were actually better than original estimates, so April’s will be as well. But as it stand now, April had the largest one-month gain in over four years. And the increase in manufacturing jobs was the best we’ve had in twelve years. So what the hell is the House Minority Leader talking about?

Who cares. He’s talking…

The mainstream media will always spend more time on the negative than the positive. No matter how wonderful things are cruising along, anyone who complains in front of a camera is guaranteed to get a lot of coverage. Take the Tea Klux Klan, for example. If they really cared about the economy, they’d have stormed the gates of Bush’s White House. If they really cared about the deficit, they’d be demanding taxes be tripled to pay down our debt. If they really cared about Individual Rights, they sure as hell wouldn’t support Arizona’s show-us-your-papers law. The vast a majority of these folks merely want “their country” back, now that we have a Black President.

But they get tons of media coverage, don’t they?…

The mainstream media has dubbed the BP Oil Spill “Obama’s Katrina”. The Times Square firecracker bomber is “Obama’s 9/11.” Does it matter that these sound-bytes have no basis in reality? Of course not. All the media cares about is ratings. “Fair and Balanced”? What a joke.

Just like Boehner and his pals playing the Fear Card over this latest terrorist attack attempt. They’d rather score political points by trashing Obama on Security issues than allowing the President’s nominees for dozens of posts – mostly Security related – to at least come up for a vote. “Country First”? What a joke.

Rush Limbaugh Lied

On Tuesday, Rush Limbaugh stated that Faisal Shahzad, the Times Square firecracker bomber, was a registered Democrat. Rush then quipped, “I wonder if his SUV had an Obama sticker on it.” Mildly humorous, I’m sure those on the Right thought it was hilarious.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t true.

Media Matters for America has contacted the offices of the registrar in Shahzad’s hometowns and confirmed that Shahzad is in fact not a registered voter in those towns. Nevertheless, Fox News-ers and right-wing bloggers are running with the story anyway. This is another example of the lie being more powerful than the truth. (Birthers…)

Now, when Glenn Beck says he thinks the President is a racist, he has every right to do so. When Limbaugh says he hopes the President fails, again, he has every right to do so. But isn’t there something wrong with broadcasting an outright lie? And there’s nothing subjective about this one. Rush Limbaugh lied. Period.

James O’Keefe’s false exposé of ACORN was accepted as not only true, it was lauded as great journalism. Fox had the unedited tapes and knew what a crock O’Keefe was peddling. Didn’t matter. They ran with it anyway. And just like with Rush’s latest lie, the rest of the media jumped right on board. Just as the real story came out too late then, most people now still don’t know that Limbaugh’s recent statement was nothing but a big fat lie.

I’m all for Free Speech. It’s vital to America’s Liberty.

But where do we draw the line?

We Report, We Decide

The main-stream media’s relentless attacks against our President have certainly not subsided since the apprehension of Faisal Shahzad, the mastermind of the failed plot to blow up Times Square with firecrackers. Sure, we went from “Why is that car smoking?” to “Suspect is in custody.” in fifty-three hours. As usual, the suspect hasn’t been able to stop giving authorities useful information ever since we Mirandized him. In fact, we’ve already picked up several terrorists in Pakistan due to Shahzad’s big mouth.

Who cares?

“We should have picked him up earlier.” Remember, FIFTY THREE hours!

“We should have never read him his Miranda Rights.” Why do the vast majority of Americans despise the Constitution so much?

“This is another terrorist attack under the Obama Administration – already more than there were during Bush’s eight years in office.” Have we reduced life and death to sports scores?

From the crazed cop-killer in Pittsburgh who was convinced Obama was going to take his guns away, to the pirate attack, to the underwear bomber, to the BP oil spill, to the firecracker bomber, everything bad that’s happened to anyone, anywhere in the country since Obama took the Oath of Office, has been entirely his fault.

Seriously. What the hell has happened to common sense?

“Guess what, Faisal Shahzad is a registered Democrat. I wonder if his SUV had an Obama sticker on it.” – Rush Limbaugh

“As Americans and as a nation, we will not be terrorized. We will not cower in fear.  We will not be intimidated.” – President Barack Obama

That just about says it all, doesn’t it?

Having Your Cake And Eating It Too

The most influential, if not the largest, Party in the country – the Tea Klux Klan – is having a wonderful time these days. They’ve revved up anti-government sentiment to the point Democrats have to apologize for breathing the public’s air. Three cases immediately come to mind.

The BP Oil Spill has wreaked havoc, not just to the Gulf region, but across the nation. It’s Obama’s “Katrina”. Bobby Jindal made sure of that by pleading for the National Guard to save Louisiana’s ass (once again). This, despite the fact the Coast Guard was the first on the scene, and the Administration sent the Navy right away, and they coordinated efforts with BP – who was, after all, responsible for the disaster in the first place. You know for an absolute fact that if Obama sent troops to the coast without expressly being invited the Right would have called it a Nazi-Gestapo move.

Next, Arizona’s show-us-your-papers law forced all the racists out of the closet. The exact same folks who despise Big Government blame Democrats for not fixing the illegal immigration mess that’s festered ever since Reagan granted amnesty to  four million illegals back in 1986. Democrat’s efforts to solve the problem have been thwarted by the Right constantly, but the Right also blames Democrats for the current situation.

Finally, we can’t forget about the economy. Jobless numbers will mean more jobs for Rethuglicans in November. Of course, voters have forgotten it was the GOP whose failed policies brought about this financial nightmare in the first place, and that Rethuglicans opposed everything Democrats have tried to do to get people back to work. Yes, there’s been incremental improvement, which is all one could reasonably expect. But I’m sure you won’t hear the GOP say anything even remotely close to that truth.

It’s not about right and wrong, it’s all about winning and losing.

The Writing On The Wall

My eyes are red. I have a migraine. I haven’t posted for several days now. What the hell have I been up to?

Reading polls.

Specifically, polls about Arizona’s new show-us-your-papers law. Even though it’s unconstitutional (not my words, but those of several republicans), most Americans approve of the bill. Depending on which poll you look at, anywhere from 53 to 76 percent of Americans give it a thumbs-up. Arizonans support the new law anywhere between 62 to 80 percent.

Look, I’d love to see the issue of illegal immigration be dealt with on a national level. Partisanship has made that impossible, and both sides are at fault. I get the whole States Rights argument as well.

But this law only makes a bad situation worse. For Arizona’s cops, for Arizona’s legal citizens of Latino descent, and for Arizona’s economy. Intolerance has never been more fashionable. Hate is the new Patriotism.

America is a Nation of Laws. A republic governed by We The People. But if this is what the country I love wants to become, it will have to do it without me. Unless cooler heads prevail, and soon, I’ll have no choice but to move to Mexico.

Outraged Yet?

Yesterday every Rethuglican Senator, plus Ben Nelson, voted against debating banking reform. While the Party of No continually blasts the Democrats for not fixing the economy – that was wrecked by Rethuglican policies – fast enough, now they’ve joined forces with the banks in opposition to the American People. That’s right. Another bill, another Rethuglican filibuster.

The Party of No has filibustered everything that’s come before the Senate, with the exception of Cabinet and Supreme Court nominations; though they’ve threatened to obstruct those in the future as well. This time, after private meetings with top Wall Street executives, GOP leaders – including John Cornyn, Chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee – were instructed to stall reform as long as possible. This way, public outrage against the Too Big To Fail industry will subside, and if they can’t kill the bill entirely, they can at least water it down to the point that it will be ineffectual.

The same time this betrayal is happening, 1,788,232 American citizens living in Arizona have had their rights stripped away, because Washington hasn’t addressed illegal immigration. This, according to Rethuglicans in Arizona, while it’s Rethuglicans in Washington who’ve impeded all attempts at reform in the first place.

1,788,232 is the approximate number of American citizens of Hispanic descent who currently reside in Arizona. Not only is law enforcement encouraged to racially profile these Americans, they’re mandated to. The new law gives citizens the right to sue police for not stopping someone they (citizens) think is here illegally.

The Party of No fought against the stimulus. They fought against healthcare reform. They are now fighting against Wall Street reform. And they’re fighting against American citizens just because, I don’t know, maybe, they have a bit of an accent…

What’s For Dinner?

Carly Fiorina, Sue Lowden, Carrie Prejean, Michelle Malkin, Michele Bachmann, Ann Coulter, and $ister $arah, The Party of No has a message for you: Quit your job and get back in the kitchen. The men who opposed the Lilly Ledbetter Act, the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor, and, of course, Hillary Clinton, must have gotten the idea from a recent episode of The Big Gay Sketch Show, where they spoofed the Real Housewives with their own version: The Real Housewives of Warren Jeffs. Either that, or they miss the good old days when you could pay your doctor with a chicken.

Honestly, Americans want to put these men back in power? Americans love divorced Republicans. Just ask Newt Gingrich, Rudy Giuliani, Karl Rove, Mark Sanford, John McCain, and let’s not forget our first Family Values President, Ronald Reagan. Well, at least men like David Vitter and John Ensign really believe in the sanctity of marriage. Or maybe their wives can just cook a mean pot roast…
